Welcome to LEAN Flight Initiative

The Lean Flight Initiative (LFI) is an organization dedicated to continuous improvement by means of supporting the aviation industry applying Lean methods and practice.

The LFI began in Ireland as a small, grass roots organization, but is now an organized, on-going, forward-looking organization. This year the organization has opened up to individual membership and a membership drive is on-going. Membership costs 110 euro, or about $149 per year. You can join by paying through PayPal on-line. It's easy!

As LFI Chairman, and a practicing CI person, I strongly urge you to consider membership to become a member of a vibriant community of Aviation professionals constantly seeking ways to improve Aviation.

A Message from the Chairman of the Board

We are past the first quarter of 2012 and looking forward to the potential of the LFI in the future.

2012 LFI Conference

We are working very hard on a 2012 plenary conference at this time. While details have not been firmed up, we are looking at holding this year's conference near Limerick, Ireland, on 6-7 November. You should tentatively mark those dates on your calendar! As we work through the myriad details we will send out a notification with the details.  If this 2012 LFI Conference is a "go" then we expect to have another outstanding program with value-added content for all of us.

Future Conferences

At our October, 2011 Board meeting in Dallas, Texas, we determined that we will endeavor to alternate our annual conferences between North/South America and Europe/Africa. We will happily add Asia when we have an understanding of the level of interest in the Pacific Rim. In 2013, expect the conference to be somewhere in North or South America. If your organization is interested in helping the LFI to establish the conference in your location, please contact info@leanflightinitiative.com

A  Call to Our Members

The LFI tries to be much more than an annual conference. We want to be the "go to" organization for all things Lean in the commercial and private aviation industry. We actively seek for our members to invite other members to events like Kaizen Events. By doing this sharing we believe Lean efforts learn and grow more rapidly. If you can offer such an opportunity, please contact me directly at brian@bravomike.net

Lean and the Theory of Constraints

Dr. Mandayam Srinivasam, from the University of Tennessee, is one of the world's leading Theory of Constraints (ToC) experts and we are privileged to have "Srini" on our Board. We invite you to look at the excellent information on our website about ToC and Lean. http://www.leanflightinitiative.com/theory-of-constraints-lean-integration.html

Mistake Proofing Efforts

The LFI is equally fortunate to have as a Board member, Dr. John Grout, of Berry College, in Georgia (USA). Dr. Grout is a renowned expert in Mistake Proofing and Lean. We have been seeking examples of Lean or Poka Yoke devices used in the airline industry for a possible publication supported by the LFI. If you have any such devices to share with the membership, please contact me at your earliest convenience.

Corporate Sponsorship

The mainstay our organization is corporate support. As we plan the 2012 LFI Conference, we again solicit corporate support to make this conference a reality. Corporate sponsorship reduces individual costs to a point where members can afford to attend. Corporate sponsorship has its rewards for the organizations as well. If your company is willing to help the LFI do its work in sharing and spreading knowledge, please contact info@leanflightinitiative.com

Member Survey

By way of the hard work of Willem Hans Mueller of KLM Airlines, an LFI Member Survey is about to be send to all members and attendees, past and present. When you receive yours we implore you to fill it out honestly and send it back in to us. This is the tool we'll use to insure we make the LFI the organization our members need it to be.

On behalf of the LFI Board we thank you for your continued support. We know things move slowly because this is an all-volunteer organization, but our conferences and kaizen events have garnered excellent reviews as valuable tools for information sharing and networking. If you have ideas or requests, please contact us.

Looking forward to a brilliant 2012!
